dear Presidents and Secretariats of National associations,
It is my pleasure to inform you that the 3rd International Landscape Day of the Council of Europe, entitled „Landscape and Water’, will be held on 20 October 2019. It will promote the value of water in the landscape.
The European Landscape Convention applies to the entire territory of the States signatories to the Convention and covers natural, rural, urban and peri-urban areas. It includes ‘inland water and marine areas“. It concerns landscapes that might be considered outstanding as well as everyday or degrated landscapes.
The European Landscape Convention states in its preamble that „the landscape is a key element of individual and social well-being and that its protection, management and planning entail rights and responsibilities for everyone“. EVERYONE is invited to celebrate this International Landscape Day dedicated to water in the landscape in any country.
We are inviting you to mark this important day in your countries/National associations. As you are aware, IFLA EUROPE has a participatory status for international NGOs with the Council of Europe. Let me know if you decide to organise events to mark this important date and raise the awareness about the landscape architecture in your country and across Europe and wider.
